My mother always called me lovingly a “Zondag’s kind”. Which means “Sunday’s child” and is a Dutch expression for being a lucky’s favorite. Well, I was born on a Sunday and I do feel very lucky. Because I have the privilege to do the thing I love most and doing that in the city I love most. So she was right.
Creating art in Amsterdam. A vibrant and inspiring surrounding that I’ve known my whole life. For I was born and raised very nearby. When I was in my twenties I went to the art academy (Gerrit Rietveld Academy) in Amsterdam. And I’m still enjoying living and working here.
Because I love being in my studio, making my paintings and sculptures, I’m not much of a traveler. But I’m very fortunate that my work is traveling all over the world to find its final destination. That gives me the energy and the opportunity to work every day in an almost constant flow of inspiration. Creating my own world with paint on canvases in all sizes. Depending on what I feel like. Or something 3-dimensional that I can hold and mold into a creature or object of my fantasy.
You could say I’m a creative mind traveler with Amsterdam as my home base.
